Food is an essential in life; meals often become the central focus of our days, because we desire the food itself or the company it often brings together. For far too many people, however, meals are a central focus of a day because they are not sure from where they will come. ResCov's Just Food ministry desires to not only examine how we eat as individuals, but how we can feed our community, our city, and our world.

Just Food Garden

As part of Just Food, we've started a garden in our own backyard to benefit the Warming Center, Community Meals, the local food pantry, and our church community. The Just Food Garden affords members of our community the opportunity to learn gardening techniques and share time in the dirt together, as well as tend vegetables that may be used to supplement monthly Community Meals. If you have a green thumb, or you'd like to develop one, please talk to Angie Alvarado-Ecker to volunteer.

Composting Information

Along with the work of planting, pulling weeds and harvesting we are also composting. Composting is basically human-managed decomposition. As plant matter breaks down it creates nutrient rich soil that can be used to create a healthy and productive garden. Composting also reduces the amount of trash we produce and allows organic materials to reenter nature’s life cycle.

We invite you to join us in composting. Simply take a container with a lid, such as an old coffee can, and save any organic materials you create through the week. When you come to ResCov you can bring it around to the backside of the church where you will find a black bin you can dump it in. We can also use yard waste. Not everything can be composted though so view and print this list to learn what can and can't be composted. We look forward to composting your scraps for our garden!

CSA

This summer, ResCov is partnering again with Mike and Clare's Farm and have invited our community and neighbors to purchase shares that provide locally grown produce delivered to the churchon a weekly basis. Learn more about what's included in a share here. Visit our Just Food Blog posts to learn more about what people in our church are doing with and saying about their CSA Share.

Community Meals

Eating healthy meat and vegetables alone is not near as good as feasting together. As an extension of our commitment to support local farms and their responsible farming methods, we organize monthly community meals at the church in which all can partake. We see this as important way of inviting our friends at The Warming Center and neighborhood into our community.
