Resurrection Covenant Church is an historic city church in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago that has been committed to faith and mission since 1897. Through the church's long life, the congregation has continued to be a part of this community, working faithfully through difficult times in the nation, city, and church life.
The "Swedish Evangelical Mission Covenant Church of Cuyler" found its beginnings as a house church on Cuyler Avenue, where Swedish immigrants gathered regularly for prayer, worship, and mission. The church eventually simplified its name to Cuyler Evangelical Covenant Church and has been located on the corner of Byron and Marshfield since 1901. Our current building is over 80 years old and has been a key point in the community for several generations.
In the 1960s while many churches were leaving the neighborhood Cuyler Covenant stayed, seeking to be a place of hope in the city. Through many changes over the years this aim remains a cornerstone of our commitment to be a welcoming and active neighborhood congregation.
After nearly 110 years of life in Lakeview, the congregation of Cuyler Covenant saw a need to re-think how they were participating in the life of the community. In the spring of 2006 the church sought to re-engage itself in meaningful ways and a plan for revitalization emerged. Identifying how God has blessed the church in terms of new life and growth, Cuyler was renamed Resurrection Covenant Church. The church continues in the tradition of its history in seeking to be a place of hope and justice in the Lakeview neighborhood. ResCov is deeply committed to God’s vision for peace, equity, new life, compassion, mercy and justice. We are a church for God’s glory and neighbor’s good!
